Abu Simbel from Aswan: road, flight or overnight?
Abu Simbel is about 280 km south of Aswan through open desert. Five ways to cover that distance: a shared road trip, a private road transfer, a flight, an overnight stay, or a Lake Nasser cruise. How you go decides what kind of day you have more than the temples themselves do.
The shared road trip is the cheapest and the most common. Departure is commonly before sunrise, the drive is three to four hours each way, and you get roughly two hours on site before turning round.
A private transfer is the same road on your own clock, and its real value is that you can leave later and stay longer — which is when the site empties out.
Flying is under an hour each way and the schedule is built around a short window on site. It is the fastest and the shortest visit of the five.
Staying the night is the option almost nobody takes and the single biggest upgrade available: you get the temples at the end of the day and again at opening, both times nearly alone.

Road departures commonly leave before sunrise. Plan the previous evening around that, not the other way round.
